2006 Dodge Dakota
The Dodge Dakota has been around for decades now, but the saying “Don’t fix what isn’t broken” definitely comes into play with this one. Dodge decided to completely redesign their Dakota in 2006, but this was not a welcome change for anyone.

2002 Lincoln Blackwood
If you’re familiar with the Lincoln brand, you’ll know that these guys have made a name for themselves since their inception for their luxury cars. They have always been in strong competition with the likes of Cadillac, and they are known for their impressive Lincoln Continental.
While there’s no doubt about the fact that they have the fan base they need to be an international business, Lincoln wanted to enter the bigger mass market in 2002 with their very first pickup truck.
Their 2002 Lincoln Blackwood was a far cry from what they were used to producing – and for some fans of the brand and pickup trucks, this definitely showed. One of the biggest drawbacks of this truck was the small bed, which is a huge amount smaller than other trucks on the market. In the end, Lincoln put their own pickup dreams to bed.
Japanese motor companies are known for providing the world with all kinds of compact and minimalist vehicles, and it seems as though Mitsubishi wanted to give smaller vehicle lovers the chance to own their very own pickup truck.
To do this, they designed and manufactured the Mitsubishi Triton, often called the Mitsubishi Forte in Japan and the Mitsubishi L200 in the United States. There was no doubt about the fact that this truck was built for those who didn’t have a huge amount to haul, but it seemed as though it was just too small for some people to handle.
As if the size of the L200 wasn’t enough, those who did decide to buy the truck soon discovered that rust would develop even quicker than the average vehicle. Any sign of water, and this thing would just rust up almost instantly.
When shelling out a huge amount of money for a new pickup truck, you want to ensure that it runs correctly and is as safe as possible. For that reason, more and more people are steering clear of the GMC Canyon.
While it looks sturdy enough, reviews and reports from owners have said that the opposite is true and that appearances can be seriously deceiving.
Not only has the GMC Canyon been recalled once before due to a leaky fuel line that had the potential to cause devastating fires, but it has also been noted that there are other problems. Difficulties with the fuel system, transmission, and cabin electronics have all been reported, and it seems as though this pickup is more trouble than it’s worth.
2018 Mercedes Benz X-Class
The Mercedes Benz X-Class was only released last year, and normally, customers need to use their pickup trucks for a few years to fully grasp the feel and the reliability of the vehicle. However, customers needed just a few weeks to come to their conclusion – and it wasn’t a good one.

2005 Toyota Tundra

1976 Dodge Ramcharger

Although the Dodge Ramcharger was first released in 1974, the 1976 model featured a few little quirks that resulted in its nickname as “The Rhino.”

Many reviewers were quick to shut down what Honda’s truck supposedly had to offer, and one person even went as far as to call it an “anti-truck.” It’s been suggested that this truck just didn’t have what it took to compete with others in the truck game.
2006 Nissan Frontier
Nissan is a huge name within the vehicle world, and there’s no doubt about the fact that they have produced some incredibly reliable products in the past. Unfortunately, the 2006 Nissan Frontier wasn’t one of them.

They thought that the flatbed was just too small to be of any use, and that’s before they even heard of the difficulties surrounding various aspects of the vehicle. 2002 Subaru Baja

Others are made for those who want to go off-roading and seek some adventure. That’s exactly why Subaru decided to manufacture their 2002 Subaru Baja. The company likened their new addition to a large dune buggy that would give thrill-seekers the chance to explore new lands and terrain, and people were pretty excited when it was released.
However, this excitement didn’t last too long. Those who bought the pickup truck weren’t too impressed with what they bought, and sales soon began to dwindle. In fact, they dwindled so much so that production ended in 2006.
Mazda has produced some incredible vehicles over the years, and many of them have been top-quality motors. However, they have also produced some flunks, and there are many people out there who would say that the Mazda Rotary is one of those flunks.
Those who are familiar with the Mazda Rotary pickup will know that it was the first of its kind – and that’s definitely something that should be commended. As the very first pickup with a rotary Wankel combustion engine, it was kind of a big deal when it was released.
However, it was also one of the last pickup trucks ever to use a rotary Wankel combustion engine, because Mazda soon realized that it just wasn’t meant to be under the hood of a pickup. Alongside this, sales were also extremely slow.

It seemed as though Maza created this pickup truck for those who were looking to take kids to and from school, so they didn’t focus too much on what was lying within the engine. It lacked power and substance, and just wasn’t something that people could get excited about.
1972 Ford Courier
If you don’t remember the 1972 Ford Courier, then we don’t blame you. This pickup truck is considered to be one of the worst pickup trucks of all time, and that’s largely due to the lies that were spun by Ford themselves.
While most people assume the company releasing the vehicle to make the whole thing themselves, that wasn’t the case for the 1972 Ford Courier. That’s because Ford decided to come back with a bang and use a Mazda B-Series as the base for their new model.
They then rebranded to fool customers that they were the ones in the driver’s seat, but it just didn’t work. People were able to see right through what they were seeing, and they weren’t impressed. After four years of struggle and low sales, they decided that the time had come to stop production.
We’ve already seen the RAM 3500 on this list, but if you want to avoid making a mistake in terms of your pickup truck choice, then you might want to avoid the 1500 as well. While many people have fallen in love with the way that the RAM 1500 looks, it seems as though appearances aren’t everything.
Beauty goes so much further than just the exterior of a pickup truck because you also need to make sure that the interior and what’s under the hood works perfectly. Unfortunately, it seems as though the RAM 1500 doesn’t have the pleasure of saying that about itself.
Those who have bought this truck in the past have noted that it has suffered a series of failures over the years, including those involving the transmission, overall engine performance, and oil sludge build-up. As if that wasn’t enough, cracked dashboards seem to be commonplace.
If you’re looking at the Suzuki Equator and wondering where you’ve seen it before, then you might want to scroll back up and take another look at the Nissan Frontier. That’s because these two pickup trucks are almost identical, and there’s a sneaky reason for that.
While Suzuki used the Equator to take their first foray into the American motor market, they wanted some help winning over customers with the perfect vehicle. So, they decided to ask Nissan for a helping hand, and they ultimately created an identical car in the process.
The only real difference was the fact that Suzuki adorned the front of their pickup with their own logo on it. Although they hoped that this would be a success, it just didn’t seem to cut the mustard, and the Equator came out of production just four years later.
No matter how hard some companies try and save their trucks, nothing they do can help them. This has certainly been the case for GMC and their Sierra pickup truck. GMC originally built the Sierra 2500HD in response to Chevy releasing their Silverado – more on that truck later – and this was the result.
While they hoped that this clean-cut truck would beat out the competition, it seemed as though their quick turnaround and their lack of direction left it with a few faults.
Customers who bought this truck later complained about the unreliability of the motor, alongside various problems with the transmission, the fuel system, and even the body of the truck as a whole. Because of this, it’s not been recommended for those who want to use the truck for something other than a trip to the store or the school run.
Ford F-250 and F-350
There seems to have been countless Ford pickup trucks on this list, and this may come as a serious blow to Ford fans. However, it seems as though this company has suffered some serious faults in the past, and their pickup trucks have struggled in the process.
While many models within the F-250 and F-350 realm have been perfectly fine and have actually been pretty popular, there are others that haven’t quite got it right. In particular, these are the models released in 2006, 2008, and 2011.
One of the main reasons for the faults in 2006 came as a result of numerous engine failures reported by F-250 and F-350 models. As if that wasn’t enough, the F-250 model also made a name for itself as a pickup truck that would not only break prematurely but also accelerate unintentionally.
1999 Chevy Silverado
Chevrolet has been the leader in the pickup truck world for decades, and there’s no doubt about the fact that the Chevy Silverado is a legend within the realm. In fact, this truck has been so popular that Chevy has released varieties of this truck over the years.
While most of them have been extremely successful, their 1999 release was a flop. This pickup looked just like its brother and sisters in terms of appearance and its general aesthetic, but Chevy decided to change the engine in this flagship truck – and it didn’t work in their favor.
This weak engine made the whole truck lack the strength its returning customer base knew it for, and the whole thing felt extremely sluggish. This pushed customers away, and the 1999 Silverado slipped into oblivion. Thankfully, Chevrolet realized the error of their ways.
Ford Thames Trader
If you’re from the United States, there’s a high chance that you have never seen this pickup truck before. That’s because this Ford creation was largely advertised and marketed for those in the United Kingdom.
The Thames Trader first made its mark in 1957, and there was no doubt about the fact that this pickup truck was to be used for workers rather than families. This huge pickup truck not only had giant wheels and stood at a great height, but it also had a large flatbed that could hold everything from flour to potatoes.
However, many people questioned whether this could really pass as a pickup truck, and the production of this vehicle ended just eight years later. Although this particular Thames Trader wasn’t particularly popular, their subsequent double-decker buses that drove around London have since become iconic.
Although some traffic cops probably wish that every person was fitted with their very own speedometer, that just isn’t the case. Instead, drivers have to rely on their cars and their pickup trucks to tell them how fast or slow they are going.
Anyone who has driven a pickup truck before will know that the need for speed is there, so paying good attention to the speedometer is of high importance. Yet, what happens if the speedometer is broken?
Well, those who have bought the Chevrolet Avalanche over the years have noted that they have suffered serious problems in terms of their speedometer. Many have malfunctioned and caused drivers to get speeding fines or to even get pulled over by the authorities. The Avalanche was ultimately pulled from production in 2013.
Dodge Ram Rumble Bee
While the Dodge Ram Rumble Bee should have been called the Bumble Bee because of those bright colors, there’s no doubt about the fact that this pickup truck made an impact when it was released in 2004.
There was no denying the fact that the exterior of this pickup truck was truly something special, and the bright color and the enhanced muscle car specifications seemed to make many fanatics extremely happy. However, it seems as though this happiness was short-lived.
After getting over the fact that the Dodge Ram Rumble Bee was little more than a souped-up muscle car with a flatbed involved, they quickly realized that it didn’t offer much else. The engine was okay, the top speed could have been better, and the haulage wasn’t that great.
While there’s no doubt about the fact that Hummers are now coming back in fashion and in a big way, there was a time when Hummers were still regarded as the cars of the military. People didn’t want huge trucks in their driveway, and they didn’t want what they considered an eyesore to be their everyday car.
Because of this, the 2009 Hummer originally struggled to park itself in the eyes of customers who wanted them. Of course, that wasn’t the only thing that caused its failure.
The 2009 Hummer was also incredibly expensive, and people just couldn’t see the point of not only shelling out for the vehicle also but then also having to deal with the awful miles-per-gallon rating. It was a flop, but it didn’t stay that way. Today, Hummers have grown in popularity.
Others: Ford Bronco
There’s a high chance that you’ve heard of a Ford Bronco because this pickup truck is extremely popular in the United States. Not only is it a pickup truck, but it’s also a fun 4×4 vehicle to drive and tinker with, and there are many die-hard Bronco fans out there – and we’re not talking about the sports team.
Although these people will note that these trucks are perfect in every way, it’s often hard to ignore various problems that occur under the hood.
Some have queried the engine and other aspects of the Bronco’s makeup, and this has led many people to believe that it’s not only one of the worst pickup trucks that this world has to offer, but that it’s also one of the worst 4x4s that this world has to offer.
If you’re familiar with the Jeep company, then you’ll know that these guys are the masters at producing great quality 4×4 vehicles. In fact, they are one of the leaders in the 4×4 game, and so you’d expect all of their motors to be of top quality.
One particular vehicle that lets this image down is the Jeep Wagoneer. While many have fallen in love with the old-school aesthetic of this pickup truck, there are others who just aren’t as impressed.
They’re not a fan of the space that this Jeep provides them with, and they’re especially not a fan of the problems under the hood. Those who have owned this car have noted that they have had serious issues with both their suspension and their engine. That’s not great on a 4×4.
1957 Ford Ranchero
Many car companies have often tried to palm their larger cars off as trucks, but it seems as though most people just won’t have it when this happens. In fact, Ford did just that when they released their 1957 Ranchero.
This new vehicle was a car that just happened to have a longer body and bigger trunk, but that didn’t stop the company from selling it and advertising it as the newest pickup truck on the block. Although they thought that they were onto a winner, their customers didn’t share the same enthusiasm and instead saw the car for what it was; a car.
After just a few years on the market, they realized that they were going in the wrong direction in terms of their name and their design, so they decided to upgrade the car to enable it to become the Falcon Ranchero.
The Chevrolet Corvair is definitely something new and interesting to look at if you’re into old-school pickup trucks, but there have been many people who have questioned the appearance of this vehicle. In their eyes, it looks more like a toy rather than something you could successfully ride around in, and that’s just not something that floats their boat.
This particular pickup truck was designed and manufactured by Chevrolet when they realized that Volkswagen’s vans were proving to be extremely popular. They wanted to create something to rival those vans, and so they came up with the Corvair.
Only a few thousand of these were ever made because it wasn’t long before people realized that the quirky exterior was really all that this motor had to offer them. They have since become collector’s items, however.

That’s because the BRAT was an extremely small truck, and some wondered whether it should have even been called a pickup truck in the first place. The vehicle was essentially a glorified sedan that had a flatbed attached to it. While this small frame was a selling point for some, it was disappointing and misleading for others.
1976 Cadillac Mirage
Many people have dreamt of owning a Cadillac at least once in their lives, as these are old-school wagons that haven’t really changed over the years. However, that doesn’t mean that the company hasn’t tried to steer them in a different direction.
